LIVE UNITED means that together, united, we can accomplish more than any one of us can do alone. And when we reach out a hand to one, we improve the lives of many.

We believe that we can help change the story for a child by helping to ensure families have stable and nurturing environments so that all children will be ready for kindergarten and achieve early grade excellence, where the building blocks of a lifetime of learning occur.

United Way of Pierce County leads, supports and invests in community efforts to ensure all our children are prepared to succeed in school and in life. That’s what we mean when we say LIVE UNITED.

We invite you to join us in this important work. Whether you give money, volunteer your time or advocate for solutions in these areas, you are LIVING UNITED.

Mission

United Way of Pierce County works from the heart to unite caring people to tackle our community’s toughest challenges. To achieve meaningful and measureable improvements, we:

•Lead collaboratively,
•Raise, leverage and invest funds strategically,
•Advocate effectively,
•Engage and inspire volunteers.

Community Impact

Our vision is a compassionate, vital community where people have the education, resources and opportunities  to achieve their potential. The best way to develop the community we envision is by making an early investment in children. When children succeed, communities succeed. We know   that, especially for young children, their success is determined by the stability, love and support of their families. That’s why the specific issues we are working on are:

•Early Childhood Development: Ensure that all our children are physically, socially, emotionally and cognitively ready to participate and learn in school.

•Early Grade Excellence: Ensure that all our children receive the support they need to perform at or above grade level by age 10.

•Strengthening Families: Help families provide a stable and nurturing environment for their children to achieve the above goals.

We also continue to support the most vulnerable in our community by providing basic needs and support services, including the South Sound 2-1-1 call center.

The South Sound 2-1-1 call center is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with 24-hour voice mail.

For questions or additional information about South Sound 2-1-1, please call 2-1-1 or toll free at 1-877-211-WASH (9274) or email us, including your zip code or telephone number, at [email protected].

Help end weekend hunger for kids in Pierce County

by United Way of Pierce County

Power Pack is United Way of Pierce County's response to weekend hunger.  One in four kids in Pierce County suffers from hunger.  Almost half of all students in Pierce County take part in the Free and Reduced Priced Lunch program at school, which ends up being their own source of nutritious and satisfying meal of the day.  That leaves kids hungry all weekend.  Just $6 per child per week will feed a child with a Power Pack of nutritious food, discretely placed in their backpack before they leave for home on Friday.
