Pacific Northwest Ballet, one of the largest and most highly regarded ballet companies in the United States, was founded in 1972. In July 2005, Peter Boal became artistic director, succeeding Kent Stowell and Francia Russell, artistic directors since 1977. The Company of nearly fifty dancers presents more than 100 performances each year of full-length and mixed repertory ballets at Marion Oliver McCaw Hall in Seattle and on tour. The Company has toured to Europe, Australia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Canada, and throughout the United States, with celebrated appearances at Jacob's Pillow and in New York City and Washington DC.

Mission

Pacific Northwest Ballet’s (PNB) fivefold mission, guiding our artistic and organizational goals, is to: 1) set new standards for artistic excellence, innovation, and creativity; 2) attract the most talented dancers, choreographers, musicians, collaborative artists, staff, and volunteers; 3) educate and develop dance artists as well as enthusiasts; 4) captivate a devoted, supportive, continually growing and diverse audience; and, 5) strengthen our financial and organizational foundation. With the completion of its 40th Anniversary Season in June 2013, PNB continues to embody the Company’s vision to “Enrich lives in the Pacific Northwest, to be considered a national treasure and acclaimed worldwide, and epitomize excellence in the performing arts.” PNB accomplished this over the last 40 years with a Company repertory of 255 works by 96 choreographers, countless performances by a total of 314 Company dancers, the remarkable tenure of Founding Artistic Directors Kent Stowell and Francia Russell, and the vision that Artistic Director Peter Boal has driven since fall 2005. PNB is committed to distinguishing itself within both the Seattle arts and culture community and national community by presenting world-class dance performance that showcases innovative contemporary choreography, as well as the best in ballet's traditions, and increasing community members' access to dance through live performance and behind-the-scenes experiences.
