Nourish Pierce County operates largest network of food banks in Pierce County, currently serving guests at 19 locations throughout Pierce County and providing almost 40% of all food bank services in the County.
In 2020, Nourish collected and distributed a record 7.9 million pounds of food - enough to make over 5 million healthy meals.
In 2020, Nourish served 79,367 food-and-nutrition-insecure and vulnerable men, women and children. This means that 8.7% of the total population of Pierce County came to a Nourish Food Bank for food, help, and encouragement!
Currently, we operate six traditional food banks and an innovative Mobile Food Bank Program that serves an additional thirteen unique locations throughout Pierce County each week. Food bank locations are chosen strategically based on community feedback and need, and are generally located in areas of deep poverty and/or areas where access to healthy food is lacking or non-existent (food deserts).
With 19 food distribution sites throughout the County, no one ever has to travel far for food. Where ever there is hunger in Pierce County, Nourish has a food bank just around the corner, ready to welcome our guests with open arms and provide them nutritious food, additional support and the encouragement so often absent during times of duress.
The Nourish primary goal is, "To provide each guest enough nutritious food to make 3 meals a day, for 3 days, for each member of the household." Most importantly, we always serve our struggling neighbors with compassion, dignity and respect.
Hours of operation include evening and weekends to accommodate students and hard-working families.
Of great concern is that over 34% of Nourish clients are children, meaning that last year, 26,191 food-and-nutrition insecure, vulnerable and at-risk children did not know where or when they were going to find their next healthy meal. With Nourish, these children now know they will always have healthy food right at home, with the families they love.
For a child fighting to reach their full potential, they require healthy, nutritious food every day in order to function effectively, both physically and cognitively. Hunger in Pierce County is a debilitating enemy, but with your help we can continue meeting this most basic need of nutritious food for food-and-nutrition insecure, vulnerable, and at-risk children, their families, and anyone in need of food for themselves and their souls!
Nourish continues to be outstanding stewards of all donated funds. 97% of all revenues received by Nourish go directly toward programming and client services. Only 3% is used for all administrative processes.
The entire Nourish Pierce County operation is run with only 16 full-time employees! With our volunteers, Nourish successfully operates 19 food bank distribution sites throughout Pierce County, along with a food distribution warehouse, our administrative offices, as well as our Mobile Food Bank Program, our Grocery Food Waste Recovery Program and our Healthy Foods Distribution Programs.
For every $1 donated, Nourish leverages that into $7 worth of healthy food distributed! 97% of all revenues go directly into programs.
