The Broadway Center manages the largest complex of theaters between Seattle and Portland: Pantages and Rialto Theraters (both built in 1918 and nationally recognized historic treasures) and Theater on teh Square (built in 1993).  The Broadway Center fulfills a dual misson as steward for these theaters and serves as a presenter--fulfilling its misson to entertain, enrich and enable our diverse community.  Further, BCPA operates one fo the largest performing arts education programs in Washington, serving 35,00 students and teachers annually, with deep service in the Bethel, Puyallup, South Kitsap and Tacoma School Districts (Kennedy Center Partners in Education for 20 years).

Mission

The mission of the Broadway Center is "to provide outstanding venues, in which we and others enrich, entertain and enable community members of all ages."

Community Impact

As Pierce County's largest cultural organization, few other organizations impact as many people as the Broadway Center. Directly serving about 150,000 people annually, with another 100,000 indirectly through community events involving the theaters, the Broadway Center has over the past 28 years built expertise and community support as:

1.  An independent presenter - producing theater and multidisciplinary work and present a wide variety of programs that include theater, music , dance, comedy, spoken word, film, puppetry, musical theater, circus and spectacles, and interdisciplinary.

2.  A loving steward of Tacoma's historic theaters - working with the City of Tacoma to manage and maintain the 90+ year-old-theaters, while garnering community support to renovate and revitalize the venues.

3.  A community arts partner - subsidizing costs and helping market our eight core users, who are our Resident Arts Organizations: Tacoma Symphony, Tacoma Opera, NW Sinfonietta, Tacoma Philharmonic, Tacoma Youth Symphony, Tacoma Concert Band, Tacoma City Ballet and Puget Sound Revels.  4.  A community business partner - active use of the facilities is vital for local retail, restaurants, and residential development to thrive.

5.  An effective educator - managing the largest arts in education in Washington State by far, serving up to 35,000 people annually, about 30,000 of whom are K-12 students. To put that in perspective, this is more than Seattle Art Museum, Seattle Repertory Theater, and Pacific Northwest Ballet combined!
