A huge mahalo from Hui Malama to Kimo, Mark, Bert, and Paul of the Saltchuk Foundation for visiting our Agency and presenting us with a generous $15,000 grant. This grant will support the center’s youth development program to inspire, nurture and empower our youth with the life skills and knowledge to prepare them to be positive performers in Maui’s social, economic, cultural and environmental condition. Hui Malama will also work extensively with community partners to ensure our youth get the attention, teaching and social support to be successful contributors to their families and community as well as give these youth the opportunity to build essential skills related to building habits of mind (perseverance, listening with empathy and thinking / communicating clearly); teach them to practice aloha and be builders rather than maintainers. Through innovative youth engagement and leveraging business and community resources, we will develop the whole person, cultivating students’ unique talents, intelligence and character.
Mahalo to Kimo and Saltchuk Resources for supporting Maui keiki and the Hawaiian Kamali'i Program! Every summer we host about 150 Maui youth at our facility at Hoaloha Park, sharing and teaching Hawaiian Culture, outrigger canoe paddling, character building, and ocean safety. Keiki ages 10-18 join us throughout the summer months to go on weekly field trips around Maui Nui at little to no cost to the children. It would be very difficult to continue providing these unique and educational experiences without community supporters like Saltchuk! MAHALO NUI!
